Design Research often scares away designers. I came to GVO without much experience and training in traditional research methods for design. GVO was a pioneer in multi-discipline product development, using anthropologists, designers, and engineers to conduct fieldwork around the world to make sense of what customers do and say. The resulting innovations changed how people lived and worked. They improve people's health, enhance their ability to collaborate and communicate, and they empower people's decision making.
I was in the Interaction service, working along side of anthropologists to uncover the cultures in place in a market and then use the developed models to create applications and products that made sense to those users. With intense research in China, Japan, the US, and Europe I developed products ranging from 3G wireless devices, to web-based applications.
